Biography

Heyndrick Asseling was born in Leiden in 1625 and was the son of Andries Asseling. He married Catharina van der Meulen and lived on the adress 'Steenschuyr' in Leiden. Mainly he played and dansed for his living but he also made violins. His father left him his instruments for violinmaking, worth 500 guilders. In his testament, made in 1649, Heyndrick called himself 'instrumentmaker'.
