Biography

Bernardel was one of the few french violinmakers in The Netherlands, born in Mirecourt (France), member of the famous violinmaker-family. His brother Auguste Sebastien Philippe worked in Paris. In 1836 Louis Bernardel started working in Amsterdam in the Kalverstraat no. 202. He died young in 1847 and his wife asked his pupil and brother-in-law Jules Jozef Granjon to carry on the workshop. Other pupils were Johan Warnaar and Gerrit Kok.
