Biography

Joseph Vedral was born in 1883 in Paseky nad Jizerou (Tsjechie). After four years study with Benjamin Patocka Jicin he obtained his diploma. He made several study tours to Italy and Austria before he went to work for Karel van der Meer in Amsterdam. In 1908 he set up a violinworkshop in The Hague in the former shop of Welsenes. His violins were being played by well-known violinists who also brought their old masterinstruments to Vedral for restauration. His sons Nicolaas Vedral and Joseph Joachim Vedral jr. learned the art of violinmaking from their father and continued his business after his death.
