Biography
Andries Asseling was born in Uytstede (Pommeren, Germany) and lived in 1614 in Leiden. He called himself 'lute-maker' and made also citers. Usually this kind of craftsmen also made violins but there is no real evidence. His son Melchior was violinmaker in 's Gravenhage and his younger son Heyndrick was violinmaker in Leiden.
